Monday 16 January 2012: tarmac to heaven

Hubs, Lisa and I took a spontaneous walk up Mount Gabriel at lunch time. I've been wanting to go up there since moving to Schull15 months ago and today suddenly turned sunny and warm, so we grabbed the moment. It's about a 10 minute drive to the base and then it's an incredibly well maintained tarmac single track zig zagging up to the summit, it's in far better condition than many of the main roads round here! At the summit sit the locally named Gabriel's Balls. They are something to do with Irish aviation communications and look like 2 enormous white golf balls. I find them a very helpful landmark when I get lost, which still happens!
The panoramic views were stunning - I really needed a fish eye to do the view justice, so I made do with one of the zig zag roads disappearing steeply round the mountainside.
Any cobwebs got well and truly blown away. Very satisfying.
