Monday 16 January 2012: Solaris

The sun in hydrogen alpha. Keen observers will note the solar prominence on the top right...and the tree #science :)

Had the chance to look at the sun through a solar telescope after someone in work posted in the intranet that they were offering people a look during lunchtime. Couldn't pass on an opportunity like that; can't remember the last time I was so excited!

It was amazing - no sunspots to be seen but you could see darker filaments and brighter prominences on the limb. Had to go back for a second look with my camera, don't tell my boss :)
