Luxor has snow!

I am feeling a little left out with all of the smashing, snowy Blips you have been posting.
We did have snow in Alexandria last week and lo and behold, we had a sprinkling today up on the Qorna Mountain amongst the tombs of the Nobles!

A snowy haven, brilliantly ablaze against the electric blue sky. I walked in and my ship ship (Flip flops) sank into a white, talcum powder like substance.

The dried sugar cane roof was white, the light bulb, the bricks, the doors, all persil white!

I have been here before and decided to play a trick on you all. This is an Alabaster factory on the Theban Hillside. The one man that sits here all day (Except today as it is Friday) uses his wheel to carve and create statues, dishes, candle holders and jugs etc from this stone. He is covered from head to toe in white clothes and wears a face mask to protect him from the dust the saw makes.

The alabaster is mined from the Mountains of Minya and Asyut about 200km away to the North. It is brought to Luxor where people make gorgeous items and sell them in our many trinket shops on the East and the West sides. A tonne of alabaster is approximately 500le and a small candle holder will cost you about 20le (2GBP) Not bad for both parties?

As I chatted to Abs Salaam Mahmoud Adeer, a gust of wind blew through the corridor, picking up the dust making it feel like a small blizzard!

This is the only SNOW we shall see here in Luxor, Insha'Allah :-)
