Sunday 22 January 2012: Signs of Spring

The first real sign of spring in the garden at our latitude. Although some ornamental cherry trees have been almost in full blossom for two weeks and the magnolia has been threatening to burst aflame any second

Question:
We used to have a mixture of purple and yellow crocuses but sparrows have destroyed all the yellow! What is it that yellow crocuses have that purple don't other than the colour?
