Sunday 22 January 2012: The idea of a rainbow
Photographing rainbows, like chasing them, is a frustrating task. If you stand back then the pictures are very pretty, but nothing like as intense as the experience of seeing one. So to get the full experience of a rainbow you have to move in close, but then the image can become more and more insubstantial.
There were several rainbows between here and Strachur today, all of which glowed brilliantly in the rainy light. This one was particularly spectacular, shining out across Loch Fyne from the Creggans Inn.
At extreme close up , fortunately, its colours were still ethereally bright.
