The Life of Bri

Sunday 22 January 2012: Aurora

A tweet from delphwynd reminded me about the solar storm a few days ago that was supposed to generate the Northern Lights tonight.

To my surprise I could actually see a glow in the sky from our bedroom window, so once LMB was finally off to sleep, off up the hill it was...

Our village is the bright lights in the foreground, the big orange light to the right is Dundee.

To the naked eye, the aurora wasn't anywhere near as intense as this photo appears - this was a 30 second exposure and I've had to increase the contrast a bit - but you could definitely see it.

Worth largeifying.
