Saturday 21 January 2012: Here we are!
Arrived in New Zealand this afternoon after a 10-hour flight from Hong Kong, had a two-hour stop in Auckland and then a further 70 minute flight down to Nelson.
Jonathan and Lynley (my brother-in-law and his wife) and their children, Alexander (two and a half)) and Simone (eighteen months), were there at the airport to greet us, although I had a hire car booked. Everyone looked very summery - it was sunny and 30 degrees - and Alexander was smitten with a sudden attack of shyness, despite having apparently been looking forward to seeing us (particularly Immy, whom he calls "Ia"!) again. As we are now Gypsy-less, I predict that Alexander and Simone may become the subject of many a future 'emergency' blip!
They had been up to the house and very kindly prepared everything for our arrival, including stocking the fridge with a few basic necessities and leaving flowers in a vase on the table.
This is the view from the French windows onto the deck from my bedroom, photographed on arrival so that I would have something to blip today - that was BEFORE I discovered that the internet, although technically working, is not actually working in the house.....
