Monday 23 January 2012: Bullrush or Reed Mace
Having blipped the winter pond yesterday and talked about picking the bullrushes, I noticed today that some are still left, going to seed. All these in the large pond were self-seeded from the spring-fed pond, a bit higher up, and now we have more here than where they started. I read that the roots are edible, but never tried it.
Difficult with the wind to get a decent shot of them, plus paddling about in mud and squashing the lovely mosses, but this one took my eye. Anyone else see the face of a wee animal with long whiskers in there?
In psychology these imagined images are called simulacra which I think just means likeness. It's supposed to have some significance. So what, pray tell me, does a small bewhiskered creature mean to me??
