Monday 23 January 2012: Not the Aurora Borealis
Drove an hour out of town with the family. Stood on a freezing hill for an hour but no aurora. This is a thirty second shot at F1.8 looking at the most aurora like thing in the NNE we could see - thin clouds lit by light polution!
I should have taken a shot looking the other way. We had a telescope out and the starts were fantastic. The Orion Nebula was just stunning to see through my small scope. I'd have stayed longer but -2C and a 10 mile per hour wind plus a nagging family did for it.
