Houses of Wilmington #4

Latimer House - 1852

Built by Zebulon Laimer from Connecticut. It is of Italianate Revival Style with Victorian furnishings. It is a brick house covered with stucco. It is beige with some pink overtones. The "Tower of Winds" porch columns are only found on one other house in Wilmington. The front porch is the formal porch while the side porch is the family porch which can only be entered through pocket windows. Adding extra doors would have raised the tax rate.

The house remained in the family until 1963. It is now owned by the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, is open for tours, and also contains office space for the organization.
