into the abyss...

It was a beautiful but windy day at the top of Mammoth Mountain. My buddy hesitates as he prepares to strap in for the steep, bumpy run to the bottom of the mountain, several thousand feet below. The beautiful late afternoon sun and the swirling snow combined to create a wonderful, glowing, foggy appearance. The reduced visibility made getting down quite a challenge, but also made for a great shot. I think it captures the excitement and hesitancy of the run to come, a common feeling at the top of Mammoth, where the severity of the run is combined with the always unpredictable Sierra weather.
