Tuesday 31 January 2012: Wink...
704/365: ... you have to worry a little when the buildings are winking at you... right?
I swear this one was...
Right?
Okay, so I'm fantasising and trying to bluff my way out of a duff shot taken today at lunchtime when I walked into town to get something. When I say 'get something' I actually mean going to the health food shop to buy some yoghurt starter stuff for our yoghurt maker. This is the sort of thing I do and cringe at the cliché I've become. Vegetarian softy buys stuff for her yoghurt maker. All I'd need to do is to knit myself a lettuce sandwich, and I'd be good to go.
Just think though - what if they hadn't had my yoghurt starter? I would have been able to add it to my list of 'crises of the middle classes'. Existing entries include...
'Oh no, they've run out of fresh basil for my pesto!'
'Adverts on the BBC? Whatever next!'
'And then, I went to get a paper, and they only had *whispers* tabloids left'
'What do you mean 'do I want plastic bags for my shopping?' Plastic? The very thought...'
'Julian's spiritual guide cancelled for the second week running! He's 3 - this is a critical stage in his emotional growth...'
'No fairtrade organically grown sustainable low environmental impact coffee? Seriously??'
'The avocado isn't ripe! And I promised that I'd make that guacamole recipe I saw that lovely Nigel Slater do in The Observer...'
The kids' crises when I got home were obviously far more traumatic than that. 'J had the pink train and he SNATCHED it off me and I HAD it!', yelled Felix indignantly. 'S laughed at my dancing!' 'The top of the lasagne is ALL wrinkled!!!' *weeps*
Felix is completely over-tired. On the verge of grump all the time. And in the end went to bed after an early sulky exit from his bath and straight into snoring-ville. Maddy, on the other hand, seems to have relished the additional hour of being up when he wasn't and blathered and blathered about her day. They've been 'measuring stuff' at school - and it's all hysterical. Apparently. I did try to laugh at the appropriate points... honest...
PS It was light virtually all the way home today
PPS It was like driving through a new place as I went 'OOoooOOOh! I don't remember it looking quite like this!'
PPPS I am very easily amused :o)
