Lonely Boy

Great toon by The Black Keys! And kinda sums up how you feel doing this job.

First blip in a long time as really not "feeling" it. Can't seem to get the creativity going, (poor excuse for a dodgy shot I hear you shout....thanks! )

Anyway....the shot is of the verti drain, basically a tractor mounted tool that punches lots of holes in the turf. The technical term is aeration.

I'm always getting asked why we do this so many times and the benefits to the soil structure are incredible. One huge advantage is to encourage root growth, in short roots don't grow in soil they grow in the spaces within the soil, hence why we make more space. Today I decided to only go to a depth of 6" as not to create surface upheaval.

The shot doesn't show well the scale but these tines are 14" long and the potential damage is massive!

Travelling at under 1mph sitting in the tractor its easy to see why you can feel like a lonely boy! It gets close to cabin fever at times. :0))
