Wednesday 1 February 2012: Echiancea
I bought 3 of these plants late last year - I dont' think I'll be getting very many flowers from them judging by their progress so far! Just 2 flowers at the moment).
Still, it makes for a very nice plant study as well as a little language development too . . . .
I knew that these plants are commonly known as 'cone flowers' because of the shape of its central section.
I didn't know that that central section was rather prickly (I'd always imagined it to be soft like most other plants.)
The central part's prickliness has been likened to an 'angry hedgehog'
'Echinos' is Greek for hedgehog
So there we have it . . . . . . echinacea . . . . . . . probably not a plant name I will forget now!
