Thursday 2 February 2012: Ducks on ice
We spent a good few hours at my parents today. Ant tried to get Dad's ancient desktop computer and my old laptop talking to each other and to the outside world for the first time since he had to have a replacement 'Home Hub'. It's worked before but it seems to be either a problem with the wireless card itself (yup, the laptop's so old it doesn't have wireless built in) or a problem with the communication between card and hub. Anyway, Ant needs to do some more investigating so we've bought the old laptop home.
While Ant was fighting with the archaic equipment that was slower than a sloth, I got Mum to confirm the identities of a lot of her family in some old photos that I've scanned onto my current laptop. I've now got a few more faces in the family tree and Mum had a great time recalling old memories and telling me some unfamiliar stories :)
Their garden was alive with birds and a couple of squirrels. The woodpecker made a return but stayed down the far end of the garden. I got a few shots of the squirrels and some of the birch trees, but this was my favourite shot of the day. The village where they live is full of public ponds and this is the one outside the front of their house. The ducks were waddling about on it, a little confused by the fact it was completely frozen. Brrrr!
