The morning after the night before......

On a mission to get cornflakes today, I took my camera to Luxor and wandered the quiet streets, happily snapping away at houses, intricate wooden terraces, street scenes, sweet stalls (Ready for the Prophet Mohameds birthday tomorrow) and...rubbish?! (Due to our street cleaners being on strike, the rubbish situation in Luxor is becoming a little desperate and reminiscent of 8-10 years ago, before the big clean up. I am not going to dwell on it, suffice to say, it was unpleasant and made me feel sad. I do however have total faith in our Governor to resolve this problem very soon)

Being Friday, the streets were quiet, but the Mosques were overflowing with men sat out on the street facing towards Mecca. People sat on motorbikes and in shop doorways listening to what the Imam was saying.

Todays Blip is of a side street, not far from Luxor Temple. A couple were married here last night and this is the last bit of clearing up to be done from last nights party. Hundreds of metres of coloured fairy lights wrapped in organza, strung from balcony's and large, brightly coloured bulbs, would have lit all the party goers sat on their seats below. The music system would have been bassy and LOUD...the bridegroom and his bride elevated on a stage above their guests, would receive each and everyone of their friends and family whilst seated on their 'Thrones' Then dance, dance, dance - Egyptians love their music and to dance!

These 2 people woke up this morning to begin their new life together, in a new Egypt. Mabrouk!
