Sgwarnog: In the Field

Catching Winter

The anticipation of snow was so great that it was a relief when it finally arrived just after noon. 4yo and 7yo were excited, but not so excited they wanted to miss parties or gym club, which at least gave the snow a chance to build.

I pottered about Tong Park and Spring Wood for a couple of hours while waiting for 7yo's activities to finish. The Mill Dam was frozen apart from one patch in the corner where a swan and a few mallards were doing their best to shrug their shoulders to the snow. The hardy ponies were tucking into a fresh delivery of hay. There were some great ice formations along Gill Beck, but in the end it was this simple image of a grand old tree that summed up the proper arrival of winter.

When we all got home 4yo wanted to go out sledging, so we popped out onto the moor and enjoyed the undulations. The snow's still coming down now, and hopefully it will last to the morning so that more fun can be had. I have a long journey to Essex and back on Monday though, so I'd quite like it to have gone by then.
