Sunday 3 August 2008: Hemerocallis thunbergii

The funny thing about Daylilies is that they do not belong to the lily family.

The word 'Hemerocallis' is derived from two Greek words, meaning day (hemera) and beauty (kalos).
It refers to the fact that each flour lasts for only one day.

To make up for this, each plant carries several stalks with many buds, so as the one dies off, the next opens ....

Daylilies are known for their beautiful, exotic colours.
