MeriRand & the NW Passage

A Different World

The beach for these kids is a place to play, to be boys. The boy in the green trunks is flying a kite (and he appeared to be the best, taking down a few other boys' kites). The boy covered in sand was the runner, collecting the fallen kites. We had one boy back up right over the top of us, yelling "Desculpe!" as he kicked up sand and ran after the wind.

I found a little peace on the beach today. Despite the people chatting and smoking, vendors with their "Vai limonade, vai matte" and "aguaguagua!", the stares at being ghostly white and in this, the kids screaming, the cars honking,... despite all that, way up above us flew the very large frigate birds- their names here are "alcatraz." Seeing some bit of nature and focusing on the sound of the waves really put me at ease. I think I could get to work down here. Finally!
