Squirrel ornamental box

I've had this little box for years. It has a flowers carved around it and a seated squirrel on the lid. It's fairly old and cannot hold much but it fits in the palm of the hand and I rather like it. The photo doesn't do it justice but you get an idea of what it looks like. It is likely Chinese and is fairly old. The stone seems soft like a soapstone. Not sure what it is, exactly.
