Thursday 9 February 2012: Training Foxy
The past 2 days I've been having a go at getting Foxy to do an 'Away' exercise while Marlane has kept Jonty occupied with grooming, which he loves.
The 'Away' is taught in obedience class and it's quite difficult because you are always telling your dog to 'Come', 'Close', 'Sit' etc. but in this one you are telling it go 'Away' to a particular point.
Foxy started to get the idea yesterday and today it clicked. I do it about 10 paces away get him to sit beside me and tell him to 'Away'. He then goes to the place I want him to go away to and he has to lie down on it, which he does superbly.
We'll see how he gets on performing it in front of a class full of dogs soon, maybe this coming Monday.
