Thursday 9 February 2012: The James Joyce on 4th St Calgary

There are two James Joyce pubs in Calgary and I like both. They are two of at least 8 so called Irish pubs in the city. here is the one on 4th St waiting to be dusted down so that people can once more sit outside

The pub where I watched the ireland Wales game last Sunday is actually owned by a Welshman called Adrian from Porth in South Wales. However, the pub is not called a Welsh pub.

It has struck me as odd that we seem unable to create a Welsh Pub image that would succeed commercially whereas it seems difficult to fail if you label your pub Irish.

I wonder what a Welsh pub would be like?
