Friday 10 February 2012: Under the bridge
Victorian steel-wrought gangplanks of pride
Steam-built, for steam-engine bearing upside
Now housing beneath iconic urban awning
A darkened subway, antiquity suspending
Brackets and rivets burnished with rust
Sloe black redbrick dressed in coal dust
Flickering tungsten-lit rain-leak trails
Urine-soaked moss growing in veiled detail
Urban jungle sprayed paint smeared like war paint
Iron-work girders providing bold slogan feint
Lone footsteps echo, along curbed isolation
Till engulfed by a thunderous train vibration.
