Saturday 11 February 2012: ways of eating Jaffa cakes

Went to a photography exhibition today: awesome and very inspiring.

Nevertheless, I was struck more than anything, by what I saw on the refreshment table- namely a plate of biscuits including a generous sampling of Jaffa Cakes.

I have not eaten one of these for a couple of decades at least, but I do remember having a very particular way of eating them when I was a kid. This involved nibbling the biscuit at its edges around the orange jam centre, then eating the biscuit under the jam until finally I could consume the delicious orange jam bit itself.

I ate one today and I cannot say it was delicious.
