It's Jello!

The Vietnamese bakery in the shopping center where we had lunch yesterday makes the most exquisite cakes decorated with these outrageous flowers. They look like glass paperweights. You look again and maybe you think that's a paper flower set in a dome of clear jello. But look even more closely, and then ask the young man behind the counter: it is a jello flower suspended in there, each petal carefully injected into the pre-formed base with a thin syringe, building layer upon layer of color and shape. It is all jello, all edible, all amazing.

I confess that I have not been able to bring myself to eat this yet. I look at it and poke it, but it is too beautiful to cut open. Yet.
