Traces of the past...

Back walking to the train, as Yummy Mummy has taken time off for mid-term.

Our estate is built on the grounds of an old estate; the house is now the Boyne Valley Hotel. Fortunately, the builders retained most of the original trees, including a couple of 100 year old oaks opposite the house.

The one part that has fallen between two stools is the old gate lodge. Apparently, the hotel used to rent it out to staff, but now it's falling slowly into dereliction. There was an attempt a few years ago to extend it as a pub, replacing the teenage knacker drinkers with seasoned professionals.

Hard to believe from the photo, but the main road to Dublin is 10 feet beyond the cottage...
