Friday 17 February 2012: Old friend, old foe
I started violin lessons when I was 6 (not my idea) and having struggled through to grade 2 by the time I was 8, my mother decided to buy me a violin rather than paying for instrument rental every term.
In the true spirit of 'he'll grow into it' parsimony, she bought a full-sized violin at a local auction. It was so difficult to play that I hated playing until I gave up when it finally fitted me at 17.
I wish I could say it turned out to be a Stradivarius, but it didn't..
