Close to the airport .. this tower of significance ..? Perhaps the answer is hidden below ..

The George airport has been named Africa's best in its category by Airports Council International. The award was announced at Airports Company South Africa's annual Feather Awards ceremony at the weekend.

Regional general manager Terence Delamoney said the award was an achievement for George, especially as it is also in the final nominations for the overall award. Last year, the airport was named the world's best performer in its category.

"George Airport continues to lead as the No 1 airport of its size in South Africa and has started a trend that other airports want to achieve," said Delamoney. "Well done, Brenda Moses and your team, for keeping the flag flying in George."

Airport manager Moses said the award was based on passenger surveys and told her staff: "Without your commitment, George Airport would not exist."

George Airport's R42-million upgrade was completed in 2007. The revamp included a new arrivals terminal, renovations to the departure lounge and upstairs restaurant, as well as other facilities. [The new control tower was completed in March.[/i]
