Wednesday 15 February 2012: Secret places...

719/365: ... and time for adventures

We are VERY good at being on holiday. Though our planning does leave something to be desired.

Take this morning, for example.

'Let's go to the Snowdrop Valley'

'Okay'

*two hours later*

'Right... are we ready *now*?!?!'

*leave the house*

Put details into sat nav. Discover it's at least an hour and a half away.

Change plans immediately and decide not to go.

Hopeless! In the end, we went to the supermarket, bought a couple of 'pocket kites' (for those 'kiting emergencies'!), a book of word searches, a lip salve, some hair serum (the trauma of having hair which looks like wiry bed-springs has finally got to me), a matchbox car and some bread. All the essentials, I think you'll agree. *sighs*

So, after lunch we looked through the handful of leaflets we'd picked up at the supermarket and decided to go somewhere called 'Lee Bay'. Never been there before despite coming to this area loads in the past. And flippin' heck - it was lovely! Proper secret little cove. Rocks for scrabbling on. Beach for running about on. Bit of a breeze for some kite flying. Dramatic scenery to satisfy my need to take photos. And a drive down to it that passed through a winding valley of trees and tucked-away cottages. Sometimes the best places are unexpected.

The kids should be tired now, but they're still pinging with happiness. We've not long got back from seeing our friends for a cuppa cha and a chat - and discovering that their kooky daughter is just as kooky as our kooky daughter. Wooo hooo!!

PS Maddy's pocket kite got modified by Nick - it was missing the string and reel bit... so he improvised with fishing line.
PPS It worked a treat... right up until the point he let it out almost 100m and it was so high up you could barely see it any more...
PPPS Then we went to move on and I ended up being the one who had to reel the whole flippin' thing in again!
PPPPS Secretly, I love doing stuff like that. :o)
