Monday 20 February 2012: The divide between old and new

Plaza Independencia is in the heart of Montevideo and literally is the divide between the old and new parts of the city.

There are so many great buildings dotted around the city and one of my favorites is the enormous Palacio Salvo building seen in today's Blip lurking over the Plaza. It is wonderful to photograph and I can only imagine what it would be like to shoot from its very top.

Montevideo has a quiet, understated charm and beauty.....so very different from its bigger and more colorful neighbor across the Rio Plata. Tomorrow we hope to hire bikes and cycle the 25km length of the Ramblas and back to explore the many beaches. Hope it is sunny!
