Tuesday 14 February 2012: The Moeraki Boulders.
Day two ... Oamaru to Dunedin stopping at the Moeraki Boulders.
I stopped here two years ago and couldn't see the Boulders for fog ... today in between showers we were able to have a wander around and get a few photo's.
I have seen the boulders at least four times in my life they are quite amazing .....
They originally formed in ancient sea floor sediments around 60 million years ago and are concretions that have been exposed through erosion from coastal cliffs.
Some of the boulders weigh several tonnes and are up to 3 metres in diameter.
