Wednesday 22 February 2012: A Heart for Christchurch and its people

Today at school we had a Memorial and Remembrance for the city of Christchurch and its people.

At the time of the earthquake 12:51, the children sat at the flagpole, the flag was lowered to half mast.

Then the children stood for a minute's silence and I can tell you there is something eerie and moving about 200+ active noisy children standing to attention in absolute silence.

Next they sang a song they know well, giving it all they had, and even outdoors there was plenty of volume. The song is one called Canterbury Pride.

As they left they moved carefully past a heart drawn on the ground and each child placed a flower in the heart - it was amazing to see these children, boys and girls, moving quietly past and kneeling to place their flowers.

There isn't one child (or staff member) at the school who hasn't been affected by the quakes and it was a time for reflection.

on a happier note, had a lovely day in Hanmer yesterday, practising the things I learned at the course on Sunday and one of the pictures is up for yesterday
