Thursday 23 February 2012: Nottingham race course
The second in the series, 'all things Nottingham' - Nottingham race course.
Nottingham Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse racing venue. It is situated at Colwick Park, close to the River Trent and about 3 km east of the city centre.
The racecourse was in operation around 1773 and is a left-handed course. It staged both forms of racing until the mid-1990s, when it abandoned National Hunt racing to become a flat-only course.
I've been here a few times - it's a bit of a laugh with a cheap beer and a tote. Although I did notice a champagne bar - so obviously gone a bit upmarket since I went last.
In other news, one of my year 10's ( that's 15 years old for non teachers) asked me if 1962 was in the sixties today !!!
