Friday 24 February 2012: The Gorbals

Only took three shots today on my way home while I was in a traffic jam. I was interviewing a man who lived in the East End of Glasgow today who had such a lot to deal with and lived in one of the poorest areas. I'm currently writing about how this creates such a lot of work for people to deal with there's often few resources left over to manage illness. I grew up in a 'deprived area' myself (although I didn't really think of it that way until I started hobnobbing with posher peeps - was just home). I can't take pictures of areas that patients live in due to confidentiality. But I took this as I was travelling back to the southside on my way home through the Gorbals as it does rather reflect my thinking today.

The Gorbals are of course pretty legendary for the levels of deprivation to be found in Glasgow of yesteryear (there has been much regeneration of the area in recent years).

It is also, of course, the home town of Sir Rab C Nesbitt.
