The Herd's Horn

This afternoon I was lucky enough to attend, and to speak at, the re-opening of the Ugadale Hotel at Macrahanish , a wonderful occasion that has brought back into being not just a place which most people thought had gone for ever, but also has resulted in the re-creation of the Kintyre Club , which hosted the opening lunch.

This is the "Herd's Horn" from Campbeltown, used first of all to gather the cattle on the common land, then to call the club to order , and finally as a snuff holder. This afternoon however it was on display in the hotel (on loan from the Campbeltown museum) .
