Sunday 26 February 2012: Clean (Relatively)

Not much different since its last portrait except new tires and chainstay protector. But several months of the brutal Arizona trails have taken their toll. It's finally starting to look like a 17 year old bike. And after a 13.5 mile ride, it's as dusty as ever again.

Considering its age, the fork is in remarkably good condition. I tore it down last night to inspect it, a job I had been putting off in fear of finding something I didn't want to find. Elastomers, bearings, and seals all look pretty good. Only problem is the rebound spring that is made of rubber has started to liquefy. Cleaning that gooey mess up as best I could made the fork perform quite a bit better. Now just have to figure out how to replace it...
