Monday 27 February 2012: The Laurieston Bar

Another drive-by shooting today as I've been on the road interviewing again. Much better in larger view I would suggest.

I've been wanting to blip this bar for ages. It's The Laurieston Bar in Bridgeton Tradeston/ near to The Gorbals. I only had time to take one shot before the traffic lights changed so missed off some of those iconic letters (apparently 60's).

When I first moved to Glasgow I was riveted by the old school bars like this one. They either have no windows, or lots of windows with bars/ cages; the mind boggles as to why these are needed. They also seem to always be open and have a very sozzled man propping up the doorway. This is the case whether you drive by at dawn or dusk.

This bar is my favourite of all the ones I've spotted dotted around the City. Judging from the exterior I had assumed it would be a total pit inside but was surprised to see it appearing on lots of 'must visit' pub crawl lists and the pictures suggest it actually is rather nice inside (see History. Never judge a book....and all that!

I'm going to try and catch some of the characters that hang out at The Laurieston in future :-). If I'm feeling brave I may venture in...but it does feel like a very masculine kind of pub, do you not think?
