Friday 2 March 2007: Romeo and Juliet

Today a bunch of friends and I went to up to Dubai to watch Romeo and Juliet. When they said it was modern, I thought that it would be completely modern. Oddly enough only the 'young' characters (Romeo, Juliet, Tibolt ect.) were very 'hip' and 'punk-like' while the 'older' characters (Lady Capulet, Friar ect.) were dressed according to the original time period. Also to add a twist the play, the lines were spoken in old english. As the plays used to be back when Shakespeare wrote this, the scenes had one prop, such as a case of stairs, or nothing at all. Over all the play was a low costing, and enjoyable while still getting all the action packed parts included.
