Watching the digger

Lots of small boys rivetted by the digger - it is demolishing the old school swimming pool.

The school I work at used to be huge, the biggest school in Australasia - now it has only 200+ students, so can't afford what it used to have - a junior and senior pool.

The children now share the one pool and are very lucky as our school thinks swimming is really important, and so the pool is now heated. Many schools have got rid of their pools altogether and the drowning rate is rising as fewer children learn to swim.

the digger is demolishing the pool and a lovely new sheltered lunch area, with sails for shade is going to be built on the spot.
