On Creating...

I was/am pushing it today. At six pm there was nothing whatsoever in the can and I decided to start shooting from the taxi again, this time on the way home during the shopping rush hour.

It's an interesting creative experience; there is intent, there is a pre-determined framing angle, there is speed of vehicle and shutter to be aware of and play with, there is foresight (an almost peripheral glance ahead/left at the scenes coming up), there is dexterity in the shutter release with the scene in frame only for a millisecond (the extent of its real time life), and there is luck, made or otherwise.

And then there is that marvellous (almost analogue) revelation of the captured scenes later in the day when I have time to 'open the envelope' and out pops a possibility or two to play with, crop (here none), and process (here pushing to extremes to get 'rushing vibrancy').

So, if you perceive me shooting lazily from the back seat of a taxi morning after morning, month after month, and now year after year (a Blip journal tells all), there is a creative intent and process behind it all which, if nothing else, provides me with my 'rush' of the day, and at zero cost!
