Stained Glass , Acharacle Primary School

I spent the day in Ardnamurchan, which was in itself a first - I had never been over on the Corran Ferry and into that area of Scotland which was once in Argyll (and after the latest Westminster Boundary Review, may be again) .

I had a couple of hours at Ardnamurchan High School in Storntian, where I was greeted by the senior pupils and shown round by the Head Teacher Chris Millar-Craig. It is a very impressive place, not just a lovely building but a purposeful and happy school at the heart of the community.

Then it was on to Acharacle Primary School, a lovely new build and probably the greenest school in Scotland. The ambition shown by the local community and the Highland Council has been well rewarded and it was great to perform the formal opening ceremony with Cllr Michael Foxley , the local member and the leader of Highland Council as well as an old friend.

MIchael has a particular passion for public art, so both schools have some wonderful art works in them, created with the pupils and those in the wider catchment. This stained glass panel sits at the end of one of the corridors in Achracle, and consists of pieces made by the pupils and staff , under the supervision of a stained glass artist. It is a beautiful thing , with lots of local resonance.
