The Edge of the Wold

The daily commute

The Kent estuary was full of gulls as I came home this afternoon. They were settled in white sheets on the mudflats, then as the sun moved towards setting they moved in huge flocks down channnel and into Morecambe Bay. While there are daily movements up and down the estuary, they are not usually on this scale.

Today's weather was a reversal of yesterday's, it began murky, brightened a a little midmorning into early afternoon, then the sky cleared and it was a beautiful spring afternoon.

Today's photograph is taken from almost the same place as "I am not alone..." a year ago. Another sunset, another still afternoon under a nearly cloud-free sky. What has changed is the conformation of the estuary, the main channel has wandered away, and the mudflat where the serious photographer located himself has eroded out. And there was no great movement of gulls that day. But as so often happens, so similar an afternoon in many ways 365 (+ 1) days on.

Two more photos on Flickr.

Sorry BB, what you might call a safety shot.
