Friday 2 March 2012: Home From Home
Today we went down to a marina near Stafford to have a look at a narrowboat we want to use for many, many holidays. We're buying into a share of it which means we will get 3 or 4 weeks every year for up to 7 of us at a lower price than we have been hiring for just one week. Plus a very reasonable outlay to buy the share.
This is something we've been thinking about for a while during our past four years of canal holidays. We know how much we love being afloat so we're delighted with this opportunity.
Our first holiday will probably be for a fortnight in July on the 4 Counties Ring. Can't wait, neither can Chippy.
The boat's name is Solace, from Old French solas, from Latin solacium "consolation", meaning comfort or consolation in a time of distress. That sounds good to me!
