Along Came a Spider

I was taking a picture of my first scabiosa of the season when I noticed a little spider awaiting his prey. As I snapped, a gnat gingerly approached on the right. The series, six pictures long, shows the gnat barely escaped with his life.

This is a plain scabiosa pink mist. In my garden I also have the most gorgeous of the scabiosa, the black knight. When it's at its peak it looks like a huge blackberry. I snagged a seed head last year off of a poor old gnarly plant growing through a crack in the pavement of the alley behind my house.

Pics to follow, but right now there is nary a bud.
