Bank Vole

Managed to convince Mrs L that HESC Linford Lakes, Newport Pagnell was en-route to ASDA Stevenage, so we had a good days birdwatching before doing the weekly shop. The main draw was Marsh & Willow Tits, but today it was quiet. In the first quarter of an hour all we got was a single Blue Tit. We spent time reading the hide sightings book, no recent sightings of Willow Tit & the Marsh Tits were described as very wary. There was mention of Bank Voles in the wood pile but we didn't see any.

After our quarter of an hour wait the next bird to visit was a Marsh Tit and RCB got a nice photo. Didn't actually seem that wary and we had three further visits in the next half hour. As we were thinking of leaving another birder joined us. Seen the Bank Voles? He asked. No we replied. There's one there. He said and yes in among the wood pile they were poking out and taking fallen seed from the bird table. For the next five minutes it was impossible to look at the log pile and not see Bank Voles. Had we really been that unobservant or was it just that the new birder has his own Bank Vole web site that they just came out for him.
