world in a grain of sand

micro plants

I was lucky to have a choice of blips today, but thought this would live up to my name. I think the bright red colour may actually be a sign of stress in the plant, but it's beautiful even if it is a swan song.
The poor plants live in a terracotta dish which was no longer suitable for kitchen use, as the glaze had cracked. It's not really suitable for garden use either as it has no drainage, but I like the look of the tiny plants in a shallow dish and it reminds me of those plate gardens we used to make, as did my children, with tiny bean rows made of cocktail sticks, and mirror ponds.
