Sunday 4 March 2012: Does anyone know what plant this is?

This is growing in the sand by a Nature Reserve down by a beach on the Costa Brava. I just loved the shape of these (presumably) seed pods. There were a lot of these growing alongside a path down on to the beach, and were about 3ft tall ish...Any ideas?
