Monday 5 March 2012: The Polythene tide is in!
Wind blown polythene waves cover acres of fenland at this time of year.
Warming the soil enables earlier new potato growth and harvesting which means higher price in the market place! It must pay more than the cost of the polythene otherwise the farmers wouldn't do it ... Unless there is yet another EU subsidy for this plastic covered countryside. Some years ago the artist Christo used to wrap cliffs and buildings as an art form; perhaps this is really art therapy for farmers?
Thanks tickytocky, a fun blipping afternoon!
