Tuesday 6 March 2012: Miller O Dee

Had time to take a walk down by the river before work this morning.

These fishing boats are moored just below the weir on the River Dee. The weir was built to provide a head of water to drive several mills which stood at this point on the river from the Middle Ages. The mills were demolished in the early 20th centuary and a hydro electric power station operated on the site from 1913 to 1939. United Utilities who currently occupy the old turbine building are due to leave in 2013 allowing for the installation of a new hydro electric generating station.

The Miller Of Dee.
