Tuesday 6 March 2012: The morning ritual...

739/365: ... blinking and bleary eyed, Maddy Moo loves to get up to say goodbye to me. This was taken at about half past six this morning, just as I moved the car off the driveway and just before I waved and she waved. And I blew kisses. And she blew kisses. It doesn't matter how softly I kiss her as she lies sleeping in her bed before I go, she always stirs and always has to come and wave me off. Wrapped in a blanket.

And then I had to put the mummy version of me behind for another day.

Well, until I got home again. When I arrived home, the children were playing on the pavement - riding their bikes up and down. Booby trapping the drive with a scooter. If only that had been the worst of it. However, within about five minutes one of our neighbours had come round to have a word. Before I came back from work, the children had been playing not just on the pavements but running into the road. Felix, darting out from behind parked cars and giggling like a fool while doing it.

Aaaaargh!

I can't believe them. Not our neighbours - I was glad they'd said something. But the kids. So flippin' dangerous. The neighbours were really upset - frightened that the children were putting themselves at risk. Which they were. We've decided that they can't go out and play at the front of the house without us being around. What else can we do? Felix didn't get it at all. He got himself in a grump that he was being told off! Maddy understood it a little more and wrote a letter saying sorry and promising them that she wouldn't do it again. We walked over to their house and dropped off the letter and Maddy Moo apologised. They were very sweet about it all.

Felix... stayed home. Grumping.

He grumped himself into an early night in the end. Still sniffling in protest about everyone being mean to him.

Being a parent is so tricky. Coming home to a crisis really isn't the best way to end a day.

Once the kids had gone to bed, I got to de-stress by doing a spot of baking.

PS Freshly baked banana cake has healing properties...
PPS Ommmmmmmmmmmmmm
